iOS 27 is out: Siri AI finally arrives — here's what actually changed
iOS 27 landed on 14 September for iPhone 11 and newer. The rebuilt Siri AI is the headline, with a few catches. What's new and what's confirmed.
Stated by the maker, publisher, or platform holder.
Apple released iOS 27 on 14 September, and after two weeks in people's hands the picture is clear: this is the update where the long-promised, rebuilt Siri finally ships. Almost everything else is secondary to that.
What's confirmed
The headline: Siri AI
Siri AI is a rebuilt, more personal version of Siri powered by Apple Intelligence — the assistant Apple has been promising for over a year and repeatedly delayed. It's the centrepiece of the update and the main reason to install it.
The catches:
- It needs a newer iPhone. Apple Intelligence features require an iPhone 15 Pro or later. Owners of
older supported iPhones get iOS 27, but not the new Siri.
- It isn't launching in the EU at first. Apple blamed the EU's interpretation of the Digital Markets Act.
- Some features need even more memory. A few capabilities are limited to models with 12GB of RAM —
the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, iPhone Air, iPhone 18 Pro models, and the iPhone Duo.
What else is new
It's a less dramatic visual change than iOS 26, which introduced Liquid Glass. iOS 27 is about intelligence and speed rather than a redesign.
Should you update?
If you have an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, yes — Siri AI is the reason this update exists, and it's the first time the assistant has been meaningfully rebuilt in years.
If you have an older iPhone, it's still worth installing for the speed and security improvements, but go in knowing you won't get the headline feature.
If you're in the EU, you'll get iOS 27 but not Siri AI for now.
