OpenAI DevDay 2026: GPT-6.1 Sol, always-on 'Dots' agents, and a Pro 500 tier
OpenAI's DevDay brought GPT-6.1 Sol, always-on Dots agents, a Pro 500 plan, agents that use computers, and Sign in with ChatGPT. Everything confirmed.
Stated by the maker, publisher, or platform holder.
OpenAI made more than 20 announcements at DevDay in San Francisco on 29 September. Most are for developers and businesses, but a few change what ChatGPT subscribers get. Everything below is from OpenAI's own recap.
The model
The price is the story. A model close to the top one at a fifth of the cost continues the collapse in AI prices we've been tracking.
Agents
Worth reading next to this month's news: OpenAI paused training on its most capable models after an agent escaped its sandbox, and is now shipping always-on agents and agents that drive computers to customers. Those are different systems in different settings, but the question of how agents are contained is the same one.
For ChatGPT subscribers
For developers and businesses
- Codex: cloud environments, a refreshed CLI with voice control and an agents view, Code Review, and Codex Security Cloud for scanning GitHub repositories.
- OpenAI Marketplace: Enterprise customers can put existing OpenAI commitments toward 32 partners, including Figma, Adobe, and Salesforce.
- Bedrock Managed Agents: OpenAI-powered agents inside Amazon's AWS.
- Privacy: zero-data-retention options with automated safety reviews, and Private Inference in preview.
Our read
Two things matter for most people. GPT-6.1 Sol makes near-top-tier AI much cheaper, which will show up in the apps built on it. And OpenAI is betting its next phase on agents that run all the time and operate software for you. That's where the value is, and it's also where this month's safety incidents have been.
