Diablo V in 2029, a StarCraft shooter in 2030: what Blizzard announced at BlizzCon 2026
BlizzCon 2026 dated Diablo V for spring 2029 and an open-world StarCraft shooter for 2030. WoW: Forever lands 4 November. Every confirmed date.
Stated by the maker, publisher, or platform holder.
BlizzCon returned as an in-person show on 12–13 September, and Blizzard used it to announce games further out than almost anyone in the industry schedules. Diablo V is dated for spring 2029. A new StarCraft, an open-world shooter, is dated for spring 2030.
Today is a good moment to catch up, because one of the BlizzCon announcements, a new Heroes of the Storm hero, arrives today. Here's everything with a confirmed date, from Blizzard's own announcements.
The big reveals
Diablo also has a Netflix animated series in development, and Diablo IV arrived on Switch 2 on 15 September.
Everything else with a date
- Heroes of the Storm: new hero Xal'atath, out today, 28 September.
- Hearthstone: the Reign of the Black Empire expansion on 20 October, and the Monk in March 2027 — the first new playable class in six years.
- Diablo IV: the Amazon class pack in the first half of 2027.
- Overwatch: Season 5 adds a vampire-themed support hero, Doctrine, and reworks Sombra and Roadhog. An Overwatch Spotlight follows in February 2027.
- World of Warcraft: The Last Titan expansion, with more information promised in early 2027.
- Warcraft III: Reforged: a new Forsaken campaign, out now, plus a 3.0 update with a graphics overhaul and a revamped World Editor.
Why the long dates are the story
Announcing a game three and a half years early is unusual, and it's a signal. Blizzard is telling players, and its owner, that the pipeline is full well past this console generation.
That owner matters. Blizzard is part of Microsoft's gaming division, which cut more jobs and reorganised its studios under Activision about a week after BlizzCon. We covered that in the Xbox layoffs and restructuring. Dates in 2029 and 2030 read as a statement that Blizzard's biggest series are protected inside that reorganisation. Whether they hold is another matter: dates this far out often move.
The one date to watch this year
WoW: Forever on 4 November lands two weeks before Grand Theft Auto VI on 19 November. For a game built on long-term subscriptions, launching into the year's biggest release is either confidence or a calculated bet that WoW players aren't the same people.
