Every official GTA 6 announcement, in order

A dated record of everything Rockstar and Take-Two have published about GTA 6, and deliberately nothing else.

Stated by the maker, publisher, or platform holder.

This page contains official communications only. No leaks, no reports, no rumours. Those live elsewhere on this site.

The restriction is the point. If you want to check whether something is official, this is the test: if it isn't here and it isn't on a Rockstar or Take-Two channel published after the date at the top, it isn't.

2022 — a confirmation and a breach

February 2022. Rockstar confirms active development on the next Grand Theft Auto. It's a short post naming nothing — no setting, no date, not even the title. After nine years of silence it's treated as an event anyway.

September 2022. A serious security breach puts unreleased development footage in public. Rockstar confirms the intrusion, expresses disappointment at how the material surfaced, and says it doesn't expect long-term disruption.

Notably, the studio neither confirms nor denies what the footage actually contained. That's a position it has broadly held ever since, and it's why leaked material stays unverifiable even when it's obviously authentic.

2023 — Trailer 1

December 2023. Rockstar publishes the first trailer, moving the release earlier after it leaked ahead of schedule.

It establishes the title, modern-day Vice City inside the state of Leonida, Lucia, introduced leaving incarceration, and a 2025 window.

It becomes one of the most-watched trailers ever published in any medium.

2025 — a date, a trailer, then a different date

May 2025. Rockstar announces 2025 isn't happening and sets a firm date: 26 May 2026. Stated reason, polish.

May 2025, days later. Trailer 2. Longer, denser, and accompanied by a specific technical claim — gameplay and cutscenes, captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5, not pre-rendered. It introduces Jason properly, opens up Leonida considerably, and shows supporting cast, vehicles and interiors. Rockstar said it drew 475 million views across all platforms in its first twenty-four hours, calling it the biggest video launch of all time.

Rockstar follows it by publishing character biographies on the official site. Those bios remain the source of most of what's genuinely known about anyone in this game.

November 2025. On Take-Two's earnings call the date moves again, 26 May to 19 November 2026. Rockstar confirms on its own channels that week. Reason given, again, polish.

2026 — reaffirmations, pre-orders, Netflix

February 2026. Take-Two reaffirms on its earnings call.

June 2026. Pre-orders open at local midnight on the 25th. Two editions confirmed — Standard $79.99, Ultimate $99.99 — with full contents published, plus the Vintage Vice City Pack. Date reaffirmed alongside.

6 August 2026. Rockstar and Netflix announce Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, premiering on Netflix 27 August with a free release on YouTube and the official site six hours later. Netflix calls it a first-of-its-kind partnership and specifies the footage was captured entirely in-game on PS5.

7 August 2026. Take-Two's Q1 FY2027 results reaffirm the date, with the product pipeline listing PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November 2026. Strauss Zelnick tells reporters marketing is beginning and the game won't slip again.

27 August 2026. The Extended Look premieres. In press previews the same week, Rockstar says the map is three times the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2, the first official word on scale. Rockstar North's Rob Nelson also confirms there's no generative AI in the game and no microtransactions in single-player.

3 September 2026. Sony and Rockstar reveal two limited-edition GTA VI DualSense controllers, at $84.99, launching 19 November.

17 September 2026. Rockstar announces GTA VI: The Album, 34 original tracks out 19 November on streaming, CD and vinyl. The same day, Strauss Zelnick tells Take-Two's shareholder meeting that PC is "becoming more and more important" to the company, without announcing a PC version.

24 September 2026. Rockstar announces a $399.99 collector's box, The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, which doesn't include the game.

29 September 2026. Game Informer's cover story, built on interviews with Rockstar's senior developers. Aaron Garbut describes the map as roughly twice the size of GTA V's.

By 2 October 2026. Rockstar's site lists the game as rated M for Mature by the ESRB.

5 October 2026. LOVE magazine's issue 27 carries new screenshots and an interview with Rockstar writers Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern and Alexa D'Agostino about Jason and Lucia.

8 October 2026. Rockstar reveals six of the game's radio stations on its official music page, with previews and new screenshots.

Four things this timeline shows

Rockstar announces its own bad news. Both delays came from the company, in public, before anyone forced the issue.

Rockstar is careful with technical language. Twice now it has specified footage was captured in-game on PS5 — a claim nobody made them offer and one they couldn't quietly retract.

Rockstar publishes almost nothing in between. There are multi-month silences in this timeline. Those silences are precisely where misinformation grows, because demand for news doesn't pause when supply does.

And the vocabulary is deliberate. They named two things Trailer 1 and Trailer 2, then named the third thing an extended look. That was a choice, and it was probably a meaningful one.
